ACNET-EngTech Held Online Annual Conference 2020

On the afternoon of Dec 18, the ASEAN-China Network for Cooperation and Exchanges among Engineering and Technology Universities (ACNET-EngTech) held the online annual working conference 2020. Representatives of 20 member universities from 6 countries participated in the meeting. Prof Hu Wenping, standing member of the Party Committee and vice president of Tianjin University, addressed the meeting.

Hu started form the relationship between China and ASEAN and underlined the significance of strengthening the bilateral cooperation, especially in education, science, and technology. In addition, he reviewed the achievements in 2020 by ACNET-EngTech and encouraged the alliance to approach greater progress.

Representatives from 17 member universities have made in-depth exchanges on the cooperation of their respective universities within the alliance in 2020, and the working plan of the alliance in 2021. Faced with adversities brought by the covid-19 epidemic, all members have taken counter-measures to overcome the adverse influence and ensure normal operation. During the conference, participants exchanged views over the problems in the alliance and agreed that more active efforts should be taken to resolve difficulties in 2021. That means paying more attention to planning work and broadening working mindsets so as to advance the cooperation on education and scientific research. Meanwhile, the alliance must carry out practical actions to promote various work in a down-to-earth manner.

This year, 3 universities submitted applications to the secretariat. After deliberation, the University of Macau was admitted to the alliance, and Malaysia's Pahang University and Malaysia's Raman University College were admitted as observer members. The conference approved that Beijing Institute of Technology continued to assume the rotating presidency of ACNET-EngTech in 2021. And then Beijing Institute of Technology delivered the working plan for 2021.

ACNET-EngTech, established in 2014 under the leadership of Tianjin University and Mahidol University in Thailand, now has 24 members from 7countries, with our University as the permanent secretariat in China. Since its foundation 6 years ago, the alliance has actively responded to the Belt and Road initiative and served for national diplomacy construction. With the cooperation on scientific research as the starting point, it has yielded fruitful results, including being continuously approved to take national key diplomatic projects and actively integrating into the people-to-people and cultural exchange mechanism between China and Indonesia.
