Georgia Institute of Technology China Summer Program Opened at TU

The Opening Ceremony for the Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) China Summer Program (CSP) was held at TU on May 22nd. Vice President Yu Jianxing attended the ceremony and delivered a welcoming speech. The ceremony was hosted by Deputy Director Li Qiang from the International Cooperation Office. Also in attendance were representatives from the Office of Student Affairs, the Office of Undergraduate Affairs, the Department of Physical Education, the School of International Education and the International Cooperation Office as well as over twenty student volunteers.

After extending his warm welcome, Vice President Yu briefed the guests on the history and development of TU as well as the upcoming activities for the one-month summer program. He concluded his speech by expressing his hope that the two universities would further promote cooperation of mutual benefits through this program. Professor Zhang Han, Trip Leader for the year 2011 CSP, expressed his appreciation for TU’s hospitality and gave an overview introduction to the CSP. Afterwards, the student representatives from both sides shared their feelings in joining in the CSP.

Founded in 1885, Georgia Institute of Technology (GT) is one of the top researchuniversities in America and is consistently ranked in U.S. News & World Report's top ten public universities in America. Collaboration agreement for the CSP was signed between GT and TU in November, 2009.

CSP is a GT faculty-led undergraduate study abroad program, in partnership with TU and Shanghai Jiaotong University (SJTU). The 2011 CSP runs from May 21stto June 23rdat TU, during which both GT and TU students will take GT credit courses apart from experiencing a variety of cultural immersion activities, including learning the Chinese Language, climbing the Great Wall, enjoying a Dragon Boat Festival home visit, a tour of the city of Tianjin, etc. "Georgia Tech Week on TU Campus" is another highlighted part of the program and one to be enjoyed by all the students and faculty from TU and GT. Further cooperation and visits are highly encouraged and much sought after from both sides.
