二、职位描述

Org. Setting and Reporting

This PUBLIC INFORMATION AND/OR GRAPHIC DESIGN Internship is located within the Implementation Team for the new Department of Operational Support, at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Ensuring a better future for all, Secretary-General António Guterres and the Member States are implementing a new management paradigm for the Secretariat. To confront global challenges and to remain relevant in a fast-changing world, this reform effort will transform the United Nations into an organization which empowers managers and staff, simplifies processes, increases accountability and transparency and improves on the delivery of the UN’s mandates.

Responsibilities

The Intern will report to the Communications Officer on the DOS Implementation Team. The internship is for three months initially, with an opportunity for extension, pending on the needs of the department and availability of the intern. The internship is unpaid and full-time. The intern is expected to work five days per week (35 hours a week) under the supervision of the Communications Officer in the department or office to which he/she is assigned.

Our team requires PUBLIC INFORMATION AND/OR GRAPHIC DESIGN interns with excellent skills and expertise in each or all the following areas:

1.Excellent writing, communications and marketing expertise; or

2.Excellent graphic design and visual communications expertise or excellent website design and website maintenance design expertise using Drupal or similar web content management solutions.

For Writing and Communication Interns:

Under the supervision of the Communications Officer: Developing, drafting, revising and updating English or French language content about UN Reform, in particular the implementation of the Department of Operational Support, its work, goals and mandates. These may include articles, emails, fact sheets, reports, online and print communication material, website and social media and Intranet based content, presentations and more; Managing multiple deadlines and milestone dates concurrently; Assisting in managing several projects, initiatives and/or events in the area of project management, coordination, organizing Townhall Meetings, Workshops and Events, arranging Video-teleconferences and more; Assisting with Change Management efforts including development of communication products, reports, instructional materials, or informative messages; Researching facts and content vigorously, cross-checking information with other colleagues, teams or offices as required; drafting new content, compiling and presenting information through a variety of communications products/services intended for external audiences and internal staff orientated materials. Proofreading and revising of all DOS related communications.

For Graphic Design and Web Design Interns:

Under the supervision of the Communications Officer: Deliver and implement the proposal of the Department of Operational Support brand identity and visual system for web, social media platforms, publications, events material and signage, infographics, data visualization, animations and icons; Complete the implementation of the new design into a number of templates, including; Newsletter, Brochures, Event flyer, Report cover and layout, Dashboard charts, Email signature template, PowerPoint template, Banner templates, infographics , Social media cards, Website graphics, Icons, Animations and Video; Systematic posting of the visual designs and information to the DOS Intranet pages and public website; Develop and complete presentation material and guidelines on how and where to use the new visual identity/branding both when it comes to media and products; Products developed in appropriate languages and formats; Interns working on Graphic Design or Web Design must be able to provide their own laptop and software for this position.

Education

To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:

- Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);

(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or

(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above) and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one year period of graduation;

- Be computer literate in standard software applications;

- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter of the United Nations and

- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Work Experience

For Writing and Communications Intern Applicants:

Developing, drafting, revising and updating English or French language content such as articles, emails, fact sheets, reports, online and print communication material, website and social media and Intranet based content, presentations and more; complete fluency with all Microsofy Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and others are required, additional Office software or other programmes highly desirable; Managing multiple deadlines and milestone dates concurrently; Assisting in managing several projects, initiatives and/or events in the area of project management, coordination, organizing Meetings, Workshops and Events,; Change Management experience is desirable including development of communication products, reports, instructional materials, or informative messages; Researching facts and content vigorously, cross-checking information with other colleagues, teams or offices as required; drafting new content, compiling and presenting information through a variety of communications products/services intended for external audiences and internal staff orientated materials. Proofreading and revising.

For Graphic Design Intern Applicants:

Knowledge of visual communication, brand identity design, website and graphic design, and ability to develop creative solutions and produce high quality graphic material; Knowledge of industry standards in design, production, printing and multimedia processes and procedures as well as typography, layout, photography and color theory; knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat; Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud application is required. Experience in conceptualizing digital products such as data visualizations, animations and interactive content is highly desirable. Familiarity with the work of the UN or similar international organization is desirable. Familiarity with social media approaches is desirable; experience in web development (Drupal or similar CMS platforms), animation and video editing is desirable; experience working with multilingual products is desirable. Interns working on Graphic Design or Web Design must be able to provide their own laptop and software with Adobe Creative Cloud license or equivalent for this position.

Languages

English and French are working languages of the UN Secretariat. Fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is an advantage.
