Introduction

The Office of International Cooperation (OIC) is the first point of contact for international relations at Tianjin University (TJU). OIC is committed to facilitating cooperation and exchange between TJU and its overseas partners to develop collaboration in education and research and to enhance TJU’s global standing.

The office is now home to four distinct sections to better serve TJU people and visitors. They are the International Exchange Section, the Visiting Scholars Section, the Dispatch Section and the Program Administration Section. The general responsibilities of each are as follows:

International Exchange Section

The International Exchange Section is responsible for facilitating international communication and promoting cooperation and exchange with universities and organizations across the globe. Specific responsibilities include:

To establish relations with overseas universities, institutions and multinational corporations, including the signing of agreements or MoUs at the university level.

To coordinate discussions and negotiations on international cooperation programs at the university level, and supervise the implementation of those programs.

To cooperate with overseas partners on inbound and outbound student programs, including exchange programs, visiting student programs, short-term training programs, etc.

To coordinate international visits to and from TJU and provide necessary services for these visits, including interpretation.

To help organize international and academic conferences hosted by TJU.

To maintain the OIC website.

To design and compile TJU English brochures, folders and other necessary English materials.

Visiting Scholars Section

The Visiting Scholars Section is committed to serving our international experts and scholars so that they can better facilitate our efforts in internationalizing our education, research and social service practices and enhance our global standing. Specific responsibilities include:

To facilitate the implementation of the international intellectual programs.

To streamline the job application and recruitment process for foreign language teachers.

To help coordinate the entry/exit procedure for international scholars and arrange their on-campus accommodation.

To handle scholarships and donations offered by overseas institutions and individuals.

To officially invite international scholars for short- and long-term stays for academic purposes or for official visits.

To coordinate the conferring of honorary professorships and guest professorships.

To manage a variety of matters related to international scholars.

Dispatch Section

The Dispatch Section focuses on helping with all the necessary paperwork for TJU students, staff and faculty members to go abroad. Specific responsibilities are as follows:

To comply with all guidelines, policies and regulations at the national, ministerial, municipal and university levels to serve the needs for going abroad or visiting Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

To facilitate applications for scholarships from the China Scholarship Council as well as bilateral or multi-lateral exchange scholarship programs.

To manage all of the dispatch procedures for CSC-sponsored scholars.

To supervise any expenditures related to foreign currency.

Program Administration Section

The Program Administration Section is responsible for the following:

To manage and facilitate the application and implementation of China Scholarship Council (CSC) scholarship programs for students.

To assist in the establishment and promotion of Chinese language and culture programs, for example, overseas Confucius Institutes.

To coordinate the establishment and management of joint education programs with overseas partner institutions.

To coordinate research collaboration programs with international partners.
