The Sino-American Higher Education Forum on International Cooperation opened at the University of the District of Columbia (Washington) on November 15th. Headed by Vice President Zhong Denghua of Tianjin University, a delegation consisting of the presidents and representatives from more than 30 Chinese universities attended the forum to discuss the new forms, opportunities and challenges of Sino-American educational and cultural exchanges with the representatives from the higher education sector of the U.S.
Also in attendance were Mr. Zong Wa, Deputy Secretary General of the China Education Association for International Exchange, Ms. Arlene Jackson, Director for International Education at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and Mr. Fang Maotian, Minister Counselor of the Embassy of China in the U.S. During the forum, the participants had an exchange and discussion on the development, outcome, cooperation channels and exchange mechanism of Sino-American educational exchange.
After the forum, the delegation was invited to a reception held by the Office of Educational Affairs at the Embassy of China in the U.S.
On the occasion of “American International Education Week”, this forum aims at enhancing the mutual understanding between the universities of the two countries and promoting educational exchanges, gaining greater support from the Office of Postsecondary Education of U.S. Department of Education and the University of the District of Columbia. Established in 1851, the University of the District of Columbia is the only public university in the District.
