A TJU Delegation Headed by President Li Jiajun Visits Hong Kong

On December 15 to 19, a Tianjin University (TJU) delegation headed by President Li Jiajun visited the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP), and met with TJU alumni in Hong Kong.

On December 18, the TJU delegation participated in the "Presidents Summit - East Meets West" held in the University of Hong Kong as a part of its Centenary celebration activities. Joining the event were over 120 University Presidents and their delegation from 70 universities from all over the world. During the forum, the University Presidents discussed the issues of “synergy, competition and collaboration, internationalization, mass vs. elite education and public vs. private funding” and exchanged their experience and practice in the context of their national and local higher education. They also extended their sincere congratulations on the centennial of the University of Hong Kong and spoke highly of its outstanding achievements over the past 100 years.

At the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the TJU delegation was warmly received by its Vice-Chancellor and President Joseph J.Y. Sung, Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President Hau Kit-tai and the representatives from the New Asia College and the Office of Academic Links (China). The TJU delegation was deeply impressed by the level of the internationalization and the achievements of the Chinese University of Hong Kong after hearing President Sung’s presentation of its history and recent development. Professor Chu Ka-hou, Associate Head of the New Asia College gave an introduction to the college system management of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, which offers more care and better attention to the students and thus plays an important role in its “whole-person education” concept. After the meeting, the TJU delegation paid a visit to the New Asia College and further realized the advantage of the college system management of the university in respect to the education and daily life management of its students.

At the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks, Mr. Allen TB Yeung, Vice President (Business Development and Technology Support) met with the TJU delegation. Both sides reached a consensus after their discussion on strengthening their cooperation in terms of student training, particularly on TJU students’ internships (both long-term and short-term) in the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks.

At the SHKP, Executive Director Kwong Chun and its representatives met with the TJU delegation. Also in attendance were Mr. Wang Liangping, Director of the Education Bureau of Huadu District of Guangzhou, and Mr. Chen Weixin, Principal of Guangzhou Huadu Kuang Weiyu Memorial Middle School. They discussed the cooperation and improvement of the education quality in secondary school between TJU and the Guangzhou Huadu Kuang Weiyu Memorial Middle School and a consensus was reached between the two sides.

During their stay in Hong Kong, the TJU delegation also met with TJU alumni, including Mr. Rong Zhijian, Chairman of Hong Kong Longyuan Group Corporation Limited, Mr. Zheng Hanjun and Mr. Wen Jingwen. The TJU delegation also attended the party held in Hong Kong for TJU alumni in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao and gave a presentation about TJU recent development, which responded positively by the alumni.
