A delegation of four from Taiwan University headed by President Si-Chen Lee visited Tianjin University on February 10. Chairman of the University Council Liu Jianping met with the guests. The Representatives of the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation, the Office of Science & Technology, the Office of HongKong, Macao & Taiwan and the Office of the President also attended the meeting.
Chairman Liu expressed his warm welcome to the guests. He also made a brief introduction to the history, distinctive disciplines, teaching and research of Tianjin University. Both sides had an in-depth discussion on joint research, staff exchanges and student training. A common ground was reached on the promotion of staff exchanges in the fields of smart grid and micro grid so as to push forward the substantial cooperation between the two universities, the development of regional economy and technology as well as the friendships between Tianjin and Taiwan. President Lee referred to this visit as one of deepening friendship. He hoped that both sides could establish interdisciplinary cooperation and exchanges at multi-levels and all dimensions. He also extended his sincere invitation to Tianjin University leaders to visit Taiwan at their convenience.
During their stay, the delegation paid visits to the History Museum and the Feng Jicai Research Institute of Literature and Art of Tianjin University. They also discussed academic exchanges with the representatives of the School of Electrical Engineering and Automation and the School of Chemical Engineering.
Taiwan University is a comprehensive public university located in Taiwan, China. It is also known as the largest research university in Taiwan. In 2010, the two universities signed an Agreement for Academic Cooperation Exchange and a Memorandum on Student Exchange. Since then, the two universities have carried out student exchange programs for two semesters and other activities such as Cross-Strait Student Leadership Forum and Cross-Strait Student Chorus Week. Over 300 students from both universities have participated in these programs and activities.
