From February 12 to 17, a delegation headed by former Vice President of Tianjin University (TJU) and Professor of the School of Precision Instrument and Optoelectronics Engineering Hu Xiaotang visited Taipei University of Technology, Chiao Tung University, Chinese Culture University and Industrial Technology Research Institute in Taiwan, China. The delegation members also included the representatives from the Office of Science & Technology, the Office of Undergraduate Affairs, the Binhai Industrial Research Institute, the Office of the President and the Office of Hong Kong, Macao & Taiwan Affairs.
During their visit to Taipei University of Technology, the delegation was warmly received by its President Leehter Yao, Vice President Chii-Ruey Lin and the representatives of related offices and institutes. Both sides had a discussion and reached intention for further cooperation on scientific research and application as well as faculty exchanges. And during their later visits to the Technology Incubator Park and the achievement exhibition, the delegation was deeply impressed by the work of the university on promoting the transformation of scientific and technological achievements.
At Chinese Culture University, Chairman of the Board Jen-Hu Chang, President Wann-Yih Wu and the representatives of related departments met with the delegation. Both sides had a discussion on further development of student exchange between the two universities through short-term programs. President Wu also expressed his wishes to see more TJU students at Chinese Culture University.
The representatives from related offices and departments of Chiao Tung University had an in-depth discussion with the TJU delegation during their visit and reached cooperative consensus, especially in terms of research collaboration and application as well as short-term student programs.
The TJU delegation also visited the Industrial Technology Research Institute. At the institute, Director of Cross-Straits Affairs Ren-Jie Hsu presented an overview of the institute, including its organizational structures, research as well as technical services. The institute has played a vital role in fostering the technology projects with potentials of high-speed growth and value adding in Taiwan’s industrial technological development. The delegation also showed great interests in the high-tech energy-saving and disaster prevention products to be developed and marketed by the institute.
During their stay in Taiwan, the delegation also visited the famous collector Wang Du, who showed them his private collections. Professor Hu also extended his warm invitation to Mr. Wang to visit TJU at his convenience, to which Mr. Wang responded very positively.
