On March 15, Tianjin University (TJU) Vice President Yu Jianxing met with Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor Adrian Sawyer of the University of Canterbury and his delegation. The representatives from the Office of Undergraduate Affairs, the Office of International Cooperation and the College of Management and Economics attended the meeting.
Vice President Yu welcomed the guests and briefed them on TJU history, development and talent training. He indicated that TJU had been committed to cultivating innovative talents with international competitiveness and leadership ability ever since its establishment. He added that TJU is one of the ten universities in China to initiate the training of engineering innovative talents, and hoped to develop in-depth and substantial cooperation with the University of Canterbury in terms of joint research as well as faculty and student exchange.
Acting Pro-Vice-Chancellor Sawyer expressed his appreciation for TJU’s hospitality. He said that the University of Canterbury attached much importance to the quality of student training, research and the academic publications of its faculty members. He also hoped to see further strengthened cooperation between the two universities through faculty and student exchange.
In September 2011, TJU and the University of Canterbury signed an Articulation Agreement for a Double Bachelors Degree Program. In February 2012, the students of the College of Management and Economics of TJU were sent to the University of Canterbury to participate in this program.
The University of Canterbury, located in Christchurch, New Zealand, was founded by some scholars from the University of Oxford in 1873 and is New Zealand's second-oldest university. It has enjoyed an international reputation for academic excellence in both education and research. The university consists of over 20 research centers and six colleges. The six colleges are: College of Arts, College of Business and Economics, the College of Engineering, the College of Science, the College of Education and the School of Law.
