On March 29, Vice President Shu Gequn met with a delegation from the Group T – International University College Leuven (Group T) headed by Professor Guido Vercammen. During their visit, the delegation also discussed the joint education program for undergraduates with representatives of related schools and departments at TJU.
Vice President Shu welcomed the guests and reminisced about his pleasant visit to the Catholic University of Leuven and Group T when attending the 1stChina-Belgium Engineering Education Forum in 2011. Professor Vercammen expressed his appreciation for TJU’s hospitality. He hoped to establish partnership between the two universities and to initiate the student joint education program. Vice President Shu said, through the program, substantial cooperation would be developed between the two sides.
During the discussion, Professor Vercammen gave a presentation on the history of Group T, the relationship between Group T and the Catholic University of Leuven as well as the research and industry of the city of Leuven. Professor Sabine Vercruysse also highlighted the “2+2” undergraduate degree program of Group T. Afterwards, both sides exchanged views on their cooperation and reached an intention.
After the discussion, the delegation also paid a visit to the TJU History Museum.
Group T, established in 1960, is one of the 12 members of the Catholic University of Leuven. The Catholic University of Leuven (Leuven, Belgium) was established in 1425. Now it is the largest university in Belgium and honored as the University of the State. According to theTimes Higher Education’s 2011-2012 World University Rankings, the Catholic University of Leuven is ranked 1stin Belgium and 67thin the world.
