TJU, Boeing Giving Impetus to Collaboration on Aircraft Cabin Air Environment

The Boeing Co. would promote collaboration with Tianjin University (TJU) on aircraft cabin air environment, Boeing delegates expressed when they visited TJU on April 27.

TJU President Li Jiajun and the representatives of relevant departments met with the delegation of Boeing led by Vice President of Boeing Research & Technology-China Wu Dongyang and Director of Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA) Technology Mark Steele. With the Center for Cabin Air Reformative Environment (CARE) as a platform, President Li proposed to develop further interchanges between the two sides in the areas of aviation biofuels, chemical engineering and materials. Upon his suggestion, both sides agreed on the joint symposium on aviation biofuels.

During their stay at TJU, the delegation visited the Environment Research Laboratory of theSchoolofEnvironmental Scienceand Engineering. Dean Chen Guanyi gave an overview of the school as well as the research projects. And Professor Liu Junjie of the school gave a presentation of the progress and findings on the project “Air Distributions and Contaminant Transport in a Commercial Aircraft Cabin”. Professor Yan Chen introduced the "973" project of "The Research on Key Scientific Issues of Large Aircraft Cabin Air Environment Control" and the CARE. Those achievements of TJU won the recognition of the guests. They promised to further strengthen the collaboration between the two sides on aircraft cabin air environment, and provide financial support to the CARE. Afterwards, the delegation visited MD82 Passenger Aircraft Lab, the only research platform in the world established with the entire MD82 passenger plane by TJU. They highly appreciated the advanced research facilities and research findings of TJU.

Boeing is the world's largest aerospace company and leading manufacturer of commercial jetliners and military aircraft combined. On December 1, 2011, the CARE was initiated by the chief scientist of the "973" project Professor Yan Chen and established at TJU with combining efforts of the Boeing Co. as well as other renowned corporations from home and abroad and prestigious Chinese universities.
