President of Reykjavík University Visits TJU

On May 17, a delegation of the Reykjavík University (RU), the largest privateuniversityofIceland, headed by President Ari Kristinn Jónsson visited TJU to discuss the cooperation in the field of geothermal energy. Chairman of the University Council Liu Jianping met with the delegation. Also in attendance were the representatives of theSchoolofMechanical Engineering, theGraduateSchool, and the Office of International Cooperation.

During the meeting, Chairman Liu Jianping briefed the guests on the history and development of Tianjin University (TJU). He also elaborated on the energy-related research and the concept of energy conservation and environmental protection in the construction of the TJU new campus. He pointed out that TJU, facilitated with all energy-relevant disciplines, hopes to enhance cooperation withReykjavíkUniversityon students training, scientific research as well as the student and faculty exchange. President Ari Kristinn Jónsson expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome by TJU and remarked that RU, a vibrant international university, is similar to TJU on the importance it attaches to technological development and application as well as the collaboration with industrial partners. He hoped that with the initiation of the cooperation in the field of geothermal energy, close ties between the two sides would be established and substantial cooperation on more areas would be promoted. Both sides agreed to join hands for the opportunities and challenges of development. President Ari Kristinn Jónsson also extended an arduous invitation to TJU colleagues to visitIceland, especially toReykjavíkUniversityat their convenience.

During the visit, the delegation held academic discussions with the representatives of theSchoolofMechanical Engineering. Afterwards, the delegation delivered a presentation to TJU students on studying in RU under the programs funded by the China Scholarship Council (CSC).
