Georgia Institute of Technology China Summer Program Opens at TJU

May 20 witnessed the opening ceremony of the China Summer Program (CSP) by Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) at TJU. Attendees included TJU’s Associate Vice President, Liu Yaochang, representatives from the School of International Education, the Office of Undergraduate Affairs and the Office of International Cooperation as well as many student volunteers.

Associate Vice President Liu extended a warm welcome to the guests from Georgia Tech. He introduced them to the history and the development of TJU as well as the 2012 CSP itself. He hoped that this program would further strengthen the bonds of cooperation between the two universities. CSP on-site director, Prof. Han Zhang, expressed his appreciation for TJU’s hospitality. He presented an overview of the history and main activities of CSP.

Afterwards, student representatives from Georgia Tech and TJU shared their feelings upon taking part in CSP. Wu Jiangping, an undergraduate at TJU, concluded her speech by encouraging the faculty and students of 2012 CSP to explore and learn about TJU and about China.

The 2012 CSP runs from May 19 to June 20 at TJU. Eight Georgia Tech faculty members and staff as well as 48 American students participate in this program. The summer program students will take professional courses taught by Georgia Tech faculty as well as Chinese language courses and traditional martial arts courses offered by faculty members at TJU. In addition to these courses, the students will also experience a variety of cultural immersion activities, including an outdoor adventure to the Great Wall, a basketball match, a visit to the Tianjin Economic-Technological Development Area’s Planning Exhibition Center, and other samplings of local culture.
