On September 13, Tianjin University (TJU) President Li Jiajun met with a delegation from the University of Turku (Finland) during their visit at TJU.
President Li gave an overview of TJU including its history, disciplinary strength, and international cooperation. He hoped to future promote cooperation between the two universities in learning and cross-cultural dialogue. TJU faculty discussed with their peers in Social Sciences, Centre for Extension Studies, and Centre for East Asian Studies from the University of Turku about their respective programs, facilities as well as career training for students and international exchange. Professor Outi Luova from the Centre for East Asian Studies mentioned that the university attaches great importance to the cooperation between the two universities based on the sister-city relationships of Turku and Tianjin. She added that the University of Turku would set up an office in Tianjin through which she hoped for further facilitation and collaboration. The delegation held discussions with the representatives from TJU Office of Student Affairs and the Office of International Cooperation afterwards. Both sides shared views on career planning for students. They also discussed possible future cooperation.
Established in 1640 with the name of the Royal Academy of Turku, the University of Turku is an internationally acknowledged, multidisciplinary university with over 21,000 students. Over 1,500 international students from more than 85 countries are admitted annually to the university. It is the second largest university in Finland.
