They expressed their willingness to further promote the collaboration between the two universities, as well as the friendships between the two countries. Vice-Chancellor McCutcheon also extended a personal invitation to President Li to visit Auckland, which President Li accepted with pleasure.
Founded in 1883, Auckland is now New Zealand’s largest university. It is also the highest ranked university of New Zealand in the QS World University Rankings and Shanghai Jiao Tong Academic Ranking of World Universities. A Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Cooperation between Auckland and TJU was signed in 2006. The two sides initiated collaboration on a PhD Program funded by the China Scholarship Council (CSC) with the signing of a Letter of Understanding for the program the following year. According to the Letter of Understanding, each year, TJU may nominate a maximum of five CSC PhD candidates to enroll at Auckland.
