Delegation from Group T Visits TJU

President Li Jiajun met with President Johan De Graeve of Group T-International University College Leuven (Group T) and his delegation on October 23. President Li presented an overview of Tianjin University (TJU), including its history, distinctive disciplines, international exchanges and National Key Laboratories. He also reviewed the exchanges and collaboration between the two universities during recent years. President Johan De Graeve showed his appreciation to President Li’s hospitality. He thought highly of TJU’s motto “Seeking Truth from Facts”, and indicated that this motto is necessary to scientific research and the running of a university. Attendees also included representatives of associated TJU schools and offices.

The Group T delegation held discussions with TJU representatives on student and faculty exchange as well as research collaboration. They also talked about a “2+2” joint degree program for undergraduates. The delegation showed strong interests in collaboration and reached an agreement with TJU. After the meeting, the delegation visited some laboratories of the School of Computer Science and Technology and exchanged ideas with faculty and students. President Johan De Graeve gave high praise to the teaching and research as well as student groups and organizations at TJU.

Group T was founded in 1960 and is one of the 12 league members of the University of Leuven. The University of Leuven was founded in 1425 and was honored as the “National University of Belgium”. TJU Vice President Shu Gequn took part in the first Sino-Belgian Engineering Education Forum and paid a visit to Group T and the University of Leuven in September 2011. In April 2012, Professor Guido Vercammen from the University of Leuven and his delegation visited TJU and hoped to set up cooperation between TJU and the University. Shu Gequn met the delegation.
