Tianjin University (TJU) President Li Jiajun met with Director Philippe Gourbesville from Polytech Nice-Sophia on November 4. Representatives from the Graduate School, the Office of Undergraduate Affairs, and the Office of International Cooperation attended the meeting. They had discussions on engineering education in France and shared experiences with each other.
President Li expressed his gratitude to Director Philippe Gourbesville for his effort in sharing French engineering education with TJU team at this visit. He hoped that both universities could deepen their cooperation concerning student training and joint research. Director Gourbesville gave a presentation regarding advanced engineering institutes in France. He also used Polytech Nice-Sophia as an example to introduce the engineering training and evaluating systems in France. He said that engineers out of a severe selection system play an important role in French society and even that of Europe. What makes the French engineering education system outstanding is its concept of “fewer but better”, its training system of integrating theory with practice, and its all-round cooperation throughout the world. He also presented an overview of Groupe Polytech in France.
After his talk, attendees held a discussion on training of engineering students with him. During the discussion, Director Gourbesville detailed student internships in engineer training and clarified the two-way selection relationship between companies and students as a way of testing internship results. The discussion focused on the engineering educational reform of TJU through the experience of French engineering education.
