On January 31, 2013, Tianjin University (TJU) Vice President Shu Gequn met with an eight-member delegation from John Deere led by its Vice President Dr. Klaus G. Hoehn. Vice President Shu extended a warm welcome to the delegation. He said that TJU and John Deere had just signed a technical collaboration agreement, with which both sides could foster substantial cooperation. Vice President Hoehn hoped that TJU and John Deere could become strategic partners with more cooperation programs in R&D and student training coming into place. The two exchanged their technical collaboration agreement signed by their top-level leaders at the end of their meeting.
Later that day, representatives from TJU had an in-depth discussion with the John Deere delegation. TJU representatives presented TJU’s history, research, student, activities and particularly the engine research of the School of Mechanical Engineering to the guests. Both sides also discussed the establishment of a joint research center and collaborative framework. The John Deere delegation visited the TJU history museum and the laboratories at the School of Mechanical Engineering including the State Key Laboratory of Internal Combustion Engine and Combustion afterwards.
