From January 28, 2013 to February 2, 2013, Tianjin University (TJU) Vice Party Secretary Prof. Wang Yan led a TJU delegation to India. They had in-depth discussions with leaders and representatives from Manipal University and the Vellore Institute of Technology in concerning continued cooperation and exchange with the two universities.
At Manipal University, the TJU delegation held talks with its Vice Chancellor K. Ramnarayan, Pro Vice Chancellor H. Vinod Bhat, and representatives from associated colleges. Prof. Wang presented an overview of TJU, its research and pattern of international cooperation. He hoped that TJU and Manipal University could deepen their academic and research collaboration. Vice Chancellor Ramnarayan held discussions with the TJU delegation on short-term student exchange programs in architectural and other key disciplines in regards to the collaborative framework, program design, and types of collaboration. After the discussion, the TJU delegation visited the gymnasium, medical center, medical specimen museum, university history museum, and library of the university.
Established in 1953, Manipal University is an esteemed university located in Manipal, Karnataka, India. The University provides excellent educational facilities to over 28,000 students in its constituent colleges. It is a top university in the fields of medicine, engineering, and biotechnology in India. Manipal University has branch campuses in Bangalore, Malaysia, Dubai, and Antigua in the Caribbean Islands. In October, 2012, TJU and Manipal University signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
In Bangalore, the TJU delegation held a discussion with international relations representatives from Vellore Institute of Technology. They agreed to continue to enhance staff exchange and hoped to deepen their mutual understanding through short-term student exchange programs and faculty exchange.
The Vellore Institute of Technology has maintained close ties with numerous Chinese universities. Also, the university hopes to develop a partnership with TJU. The Vellore Institute of Technology is a private university located in Vellore Tamil Nadu, India. It was ranked number 12 in India Today's Best Engineering Colleges in India of 2012. The university offers 19 Undergraduate and 35 Postgraduate programs in nine schools. It has approximately 19,600 students. It is among the top universities in graduate employment rate in south India.
The TJU delegation also paid a visit to Mr. Huang Zhigang, the Education Secretary of Chinese Embassy in India. He encouraged faster development of potential cooperation between Chinese and Indian universities. He also offered suggestions on cooperation and exchange between TJU and Indian universities.
