President of ENSIB Visits TJU

2013-05-20

On May 20, 2013, a delegation from ENSI de Bourges (ENSIB), led by President Joel Allain, visited Tianjin University (TJU). TJU President Li Jiajun met with the guests, and discussions were held between the two sides. Also in attendance were representatives from the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Computer Software, the College of Management and Economics, the Graduate School, and the Office of International Cooperation.

During the discussion, President Li extended a warm welcome to the guests. He recalled his pleasant visit with a TJU delegation to ENSIB in November, 2012, and expected to further enhance the friendship between the two universities.

Afterwards, both sides reviewed the cooperation in terms of student training and exchange over the past 2 years. President Li indicated that engineering education in France is well known around the world for its extraordinary quality. TJU has always attached much importance to Sino-Franco collaboration and intended to set up a Sino-Franco engineering school. He hoped that both sides could grasp the opportunity and build a platform to further promote substantial cooperation in teaching and research. President Allain commented that both universities shared similarity in their advantageous disciplines. He also hoped for strengthening cooperation with TJU.

In addition, President Allain delightfully mentioned that ENSIB had successfully joined the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA). There are 6 INSA establishments in France. TJU students participating in the master’s dual-diploma program between the two universities will also obtain an engineering degree awarded by INSA. Over a 5 year curriculum, with a policy of elite education, French engineering schools train highly qualified engineers with engineering degrees awarded by the Ministry for Higher Education in France. Both sides exchanged ideas and agreed on promoting cooperation between INSA and TJU. They also touched on issues on how to promote joint student training, faculty exchange and joint research.

During the visit, the delegation had in-depth discussions with representatives from relevant schools and offices on the master’s dual-diploma program, including matching curriculum and working mechanism.

President Allain also delivered a presentation on the master’s dual-diploma program to TJU students, and issued acceptance letters to two TJU students from the College of Management and Economics.

In November, 2012, both presidents signed a Cooperation Agreement for a Dual-Diploma Program in France. According to the agreement, qualified students in the first year of a Master’s program in Mechanical Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Automation, Economics and Management, as recommended by TJU and accepted by ENSIB in accordance with ENSIB’s international admission procedures and standards, will enter the program at ENSIB. Students who meet all requirements for graduation will be awarded a Diploma of Engineering from ENSIB and a Master’s Degree from TJU.
