On June 25, 2013, Vice Chancellor for Clinical and Translational Research and Director of the Duke Translational Medicine Institute (DTM) at the Duke University Medical Center, Professor Robert McKinnon Califf, visited Tinajin University (TJU) accompanied by Vice Dean of Tianjin International Joint Academy of Biotechnology and Medicine Zhang Yaozhou. President Li Jiajun and Vice President Shu Gequn met with the delegation. Representatives from the Personnel Office, the Graduate School, and the Office of International Cooperation attended the meeting.
President Li welcomed the delegation and presented an overview of the development of life sciences at TJU. He expressed his willingness to build strong life sciences and medical sciences disciplines in collaboration with world-class universities.
Vice President Shu outlined the development plan for constructing programs in life sciences and medical sciences for TJU. Professor Califf showed interest in the development of TJU and anticipated for further understanding between both sides, which would lay the foundation for deeper cooperation in the future.
During the talks, differences in the medical education systems between China, the U.S., and Britain were discussed, and consensuses in scientific cooperation and personnel training were reached. Additionally, the delegation also visited TJU History Museum.
