On August 27, 2013, “One Camp Three Cities—Tianjin Site” 2013 Excellence Alliance (China) (9 excellent engineering universities, or E9 in short) Summer Camp opened at Tianjin University (TJU). Over 40 faculty members and students from E9 and Excellence in Engineering and the Sciences Made in Germany (TJU9) arrived at TJU from the last site in Guangzhou.
The eight-day summer camp from August 24 to 31 was co-organized by the Offices of International Cooperation from TJU, the Beijing Institute of Technology, and the South China University of Technology, and supported by other universities of the Excellence Alliance. Through a variety of visit and exchange activities, the camp increased participating students’ understandings of the history and culture of Guangzhou, Tianjin, and Beijing.
At TJU, camp participants visited the TJU History Museum and the Feng Jicai Research Institute of Literature and Art, experiencing the illustrious history of TJU as the first university of China and TJU’s artistic achievements fertilized with the engineering grounds. Also, they toured the Tianjin Planning Exhibition Hall, Italian Style Street, and the Tianjin Ancient Culture Street. Tianjin, where the traditional and the modern, the old and the new collide and sparkle, gave the participants a pleasing and poignant impression.
As part of the concerted effort in talent training signed, E9 has organized three “One Camp Three Cities” E9 Summer Camps since 2011. The 2013 “One Camp Three Cities” E9 Summer Camp attracted students from E9 TJU9 members participating in this cultural exchange through the exchange platform for international students. TJU9 is the association of the nine leading Institutes of Technology in Germany, being called the “Ivy League of Europe”.
