President Li Meets Science Editor-in-Chief

On January 12, 2014, Tianjin University (TJU) President Li Jiajun met Dr. Marcia McNutt, Editor-in-Chief ofSciencemagazine, in Beijing.

During the meeting, President Li briefly introduced toDr. McNuttTJU’s history and achievements made in research and education. It was the first time for Dr. McNutt to visit China as Editor-in-Chief ofSciencemagazine. She said that China is now a country that nobody should ignore. She emphasized the significance of basic research and the positive role of basic research achievements in social development.Sciencemagazine, she mentioned, focuses on originality of research and rigor in authorship of academic papers. She said that learning to say “no” and striking a proper balance between work and play are particularly important for young researchers in their pursuit of scientific goals. With pleasure, she also accepted President Li’s invitation to visit TJU at her convenience.
