Collaboration Between TJU and Alexandria to Blossom

On February 21, 2014, a delegation from Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. (Alexandria), headed by Ms. Lynne Zydowsky, Alexandria Summit President and Scientific Advisor to the CEO, visited Tianjin, to promote collaboration with TEDA and Tianjin University (TJU). Madam Zhu Liping, Secretary, Education Working Committee of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, greeted the guests. TJU President Li Jiajun, Vice President Yuan Yingjin, leading officers from the Municipal Science and Technology Commission, TEDA Administrative Commission, and other representatives from TJU, attended the event.

Madam Zhu spoke highly of Alexandria for its active role in promoting the development of the biomedical industry in Tianjin, especially for the novel concept and high level of Alexandra (Tianjin) Science Incubator, Ltd. Besides, Madam Zhu also promised her support, on behalf of the Tianjin government, to the collaboration between TJU and Alexandria, in terms of joint innovation in chemical science and engineering, and a joint conference to be held in TEDA this May.

During the meeting between TJU and Alexandria, President Li Jiajun indicated that collaboration could be developed revolving around areas like chemical engineering, biomedicine, life science, and the Co-Innovation Centre of Chemical Science and Engineering (Tianjin), led by TJU, could be a platform for this collaboration. He also hoped that exchanges and collaboration between the two sides could further be enhanced through the joint conference. Following, Mr. Daniel Tsang, Vice President of Alexandria, gave an overview of Alexandria, its investment in Tianjin, and future plans. The representative from the Co-Innovation Centre of Chemical Science and Engineering (Tianjin) briefed the guests on the centre and its research activities. Both sides held detailed discussions regarding the conference.

Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. is the largest Real Estate Investment Trust focused principally on building and managing high-quality real estate for the life science industry. Alexandria made an investment in the TEDA Bio Medical Zone in 2007 to establish a biomedical incubator covering a total area of 170,000m2. Currently, the first phase of the project with approximately 30,000m2of space has been completed and is in full operation.
