2014-04-25

Tianjin University (TJU) and the prestigious Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) jointly launched a graduate program in electrical and computer engineering at Shenzhen Virtual University Park (SZVUP). A press conference was held on April 23, 2014.

To serve the first full-time master’s program at SZVUP, Georgia Tech plans to dispatch a teaching team from its main campus in Atlanta. This program enrolls 120 students from around the world each year, with 20 dual-master's students from TJU. Students will study three semesters in the program. During the first two semesters, they will attend classes in Shenzhen. Then they may choose to complete the third semester in Shenzhen or at the Atlanta campus. Besides, students enrolled in the program will have access to resources of Georgia Tech, including a campus e-mail account and reference materials. Students in Shenzhen will be evaluated in the same manner as those in the U.S., and they receive the same degree upon graduation.

This program is the first joint educational program between TJU and one of the top U.S. universities. It will provide TJU students with an opportunity to receive an American education without going abroad. With its gradual development, the program functions uniquely in innovating educational model, promoting disciplinary development, improving teachers’ quality and broadening the ways of cultivating talents.
