2014-04-28

On April 26, 2014, a delegation from the University of Waterloo, headed by its President Feridun Hamdullahpur, visited Tianjin University (TJU). TJU President Li Jiajun, together with representatives from Tianjin Municipal and Technology Commission, and TJU related schools and offices, met with the delegates.

President Li apprised the guests of TJU's history, its recent development and new campus construction, and reviewed previous research collaboration between the two universities. He highlighted that TJU kept a close cooperative relationship with industry, with a full play to social service. Besides, TJU attaches great importance to innovation and technology transfer. Furthermore, with greater space mixed with the opportunity of TJU new campus being established, he hoped to further push forward cooperation in research and student training between the two universities through research collaberation and their partnerships with industry.

President Hamdullahpur indicated that in spite of a shorter history of the University of Waterloo compared with TJU, the University of Waterloo similarly focuses on students’ connection with industry and encouragement of their entrepreneurship. He also talked about his first visit to China in 1987 and its dramatically rapid growth in recent years. He looked forward to a more detailed discussion with President Li on further cooperation details.
