On May 12, 2014, President Ari K. Jónsson of Reykjavík University and his delegation visited Tianjin University (TJU). President Li Jiajun met with the delegation. Attendees included TJU Assistant President Hu Wenping, and representative from related schools and offices.
President Li reviewed cooperation on energy between the two universities and highlighted TJU’s collaborative innovation centers of the Higher Education Innovative Capacity Improvement Scheme (the 2011 Project), and the newly established Tianjin International Engineering Institute, as well as its business club. He mentioned that although there was no energy school at TJU, experts and professors of different schools had been working on energy research, including the Schools of Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Environmental Science and Engineering. Meanwhile, TJU has attached great importance to cooperation with industry in student training and scientific research. He hoped to integrate various resources to develop diversified forms of cooperation with Reykjavík University.
President Jónsson indicated that Reykjavík University shared similarities with TJU in engineering strength and combining student training with collaboration with industry. With a unique advantage in energy research, Reykjavík University hoped to develop all-round cooperation with TJU on energy and related interdisciplinary subjects for the development of the two universities, as well as social and technological progress of the two countries .
After the meeting, the delegation discussed detailed cooperation with representatives of TJU related schools and offices, and reached an initial agreement on the development of dual master degree programs and scholarships with the School of Mechanical Engineering of TJU.
