Georgia Institute of Technology China Summer Program 2014 Kicks Off

May 18, 2014, witnessed the opening ceremony of the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech) China Summer Program (CSP) at Tianjin University. Assistant PresidentHu Wenping addressed the ceremony.

During the ceremony, Assistant President Hu extended his warm welcome to the faculty and students of Georgia Tech and briefed on the history and development of the University. He expressed hope that this year’s program would further strengthen the bonds between both universities. Then Dr. Patrick McHenry, a faculty representative from Georgia Tech, expressed her gratitude to CSP staff and volunteers for their effort and hope that the students of Georgia Tech would make friends with Chinese students during their stay in Tianjin. Afterwards, a student representative from Tianjin University shared his study experiences at Georgia Tech and looked forward to spending this summer with American peers, while the Georgia Tech student representative shared his delightfulness of coming to China and expressed his thanks for the hospitality of Tianjin University.

The one-month 2014 CSP began on May 18. During the program, CSP students will take credit courses offered by Georgia Tech professors, as well as traditional martial arts, Tai Chi, and Chinese language courses offered by faculty members of Tianjin University. This also gives Tianjin University students an opportunity to audit courses given by a world-famous university. In addition to these courses, students will also experience a variety of cultural immersion activities, including a basketball game, a football match, cultural visits, Dragon Boat Festival celebration, and other samplings of local culture.
