TJU Welcomes Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Melbourne

On July 7, 2014, Simon Evans, Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Melbourne visited Tianjin University (TJU), accompanied by the representatives from Tianjin Commission of Commerce and Tianjin Municipal Education Commission. TJU President Li Jiajun, together with his colleagues from the Office of International Cooperation and the Office of Undergraduate Affairs, met the guests.

President Li warmly welcomed the guests. Then Prof. Yang Fuling from the Office of International Cooperation gave an overview on TJU, including its history, disciplines and international cooperation, etc. Pro Vice Chancellor Evans praised the achievements made by TJU. He pointed out that, cooperation has been developed in various areas between the two sister cities, Tianjin and Melbourne. Besides, as exemplary research universities in the two cities, TJU and the University of Melbourne shared a lot in common. He hoped, through this visit, cooperation between the two universities could be further promoted. According to President Li, TJU, as a research university, has made considerable progress in university-industry collaboration. What’s more, TJU’s Internationalization Strategy boosted the internationalization process of the university. With educational collaboration being attached much importance by both governments, he hoped to see deeper exchanges and collaboration between the two universities in terms of student training and disciplinary development.

The guests also visited the new campus, the Research Institute of Architectural Design & Urban Planning, the History Museum and the School of Pharmaceutical Science and Technology of TJU.
