Tianjin University Delegation Visits Sydney Australia

From November 30 to December 1, 2017, a delegation from Tianjin University (TJU) led by TJU President, Zhong Denghua visited the University of Sydney. During the visit a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation was signed. The delegation also attended the TJU Overseas Recruitment Fair in Sydney.

Professor Duncan Ivison, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Professor Archie Johnson, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technologies met with the delegation. Professor Duncan Ivison said he hoped to seek long-term strategic partnerships with Chinese universities now that the University of Sydney was paying more attention to the construction of an interdisciplinary platform. The President, Zhong Denghua, with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation, hoped to continue to further the cooperation between both universities.

The delegation visited the Education Office of the Consulate-General of China in Sydney. The Counsellor, Niu Wenqi, explained the current cooperation between Australian and Chinese universities expecting more substantive cooperation in the future. Zhong Denghua hoped that further partnerships with renowned universities in Australia could be achieved and more top-quality talent could be introduced into TJU.

On December 1, the TJU Overseas Recruitment Fair in Sydney was held at the Education Office of the Consul-General of China in Sydney. President Zhong Denghua was present at the Fair with more than thirty talented people from overseas from academic institutes including the University of Sydney, the University of New South Wales and the University of Technology Sydney. Counsellor Niu Wenqi hosted the Fair and made clear the important role of TJU in the development of Chinese modern higher education and the great importance TJU attached to the recruitment of outstanding overseas talent. Zhong Denghua called for overseas Chinese talent and pioneers to work to fulfill their ability for Tianjin University. Tianjin University optimizes opportunities for the development of careers for talented people. President Zhong stated that for Tianjin University’s development they needed talented people, and as well as high-level leading talent they needed talented youth with academic potential. In the context of the launch of the National “Double World-class” Plan, the comfortable living environment of Tianjin and the sound academic environment of TJU, talented people could rely on a development platform, a favorable talent introduction policy and an outstanding talent cultivation environment provided by Tianjin University to give full play to their abilities. Relevant leaders with the recruitment group explained the requirements and qualifications, support measures, and development platform, emphasizing and the upcoming “Peiyang Scientist Forum”.

During the visit, on the occasion of the first anniversary of the TJU Alumni Association in Australia, President Zhong Denghua attended a symposium of the Alumni Association during which they stated their pride in the current development of TJU. President Zhong visited Professor Yiu-Wing Mai at the University of Sydney who is also a guest professor at TJU, congratulating him on his election as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Professor Mai said he would always be concerned with and supportive of the development of TJU.
