Tianjin University,Clariant Sign Cooperation Agreement

Tianjin University and Clariant, the world's leading specialty Chemicals Company based in Muttenz, near Basel/Switzerland signed a cooperation Agreement on September 8, 2020 in Tianjin and vowed to deepen the future development and commercialization of new catalytic solutions.

“Our university attaches great importance to the cooperation with Clariant,” said Jin Donghan, President of Tianjin University at the signing ceremony. He introduced that Tianjin University had distinguished scientific research advantages in chemical engineering and cultivated a large number of outstanding talents. “We hope that the two parties will take the signing of the cooperation agreement as an opportunity to deepen cooperation in the fields of teaching, scientific research and commercialization of research results, and actively build up a strategic partnership,” President Jin noted.

Andy Walti, Head of Clariant’s Region China, who was present at the ceremony mentioned that as the world's leading specialty chemicals company, Clariant not only focused on developing new technologies, new processes and new products, but also was committed to supporting and cultivating young talents.

Marvin Estenfelder, Vice President of R&D at Clariant's Catalysts Business Unit attended the ceremony remotely through online meeting in Munich, Germany. He said that Clariant was honored to cooperate with such a high-ranking university in China, and that the important research initiatives of the cooperation between the two parties would benefit its global, especially local Chinese customers.

“The trip to TJU marks the beginning of cooperation between the two parties,” Kevin Chan, Vice President of BU Catalysts China, Clariant, remarked in his speech. He expressed the hope that by carrying out subsequent projects, TJU-Clariant ties would become an important platform for global R&D and innovation.

Hu Wenping, Vice president of Tianjin University, thanked Clariant for its strong support for this cooperation and hoped to further deepen the pragmatic cooperation between the two parties in various fields and raise the level of school-enterprise cooperation to a new height. Zhang Zhen, Director of Office of International Cooperation, Tianjin University, also reported on the development of Tianjin University.

Hu Wenping and Kevin Chan signed the agreement on behalf of TJU and Clariant.

Before the signing ceremony, Ma Xinbin, Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering, accompanied the delegation to visit the Experimental Center of Basic Chemical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology Experiment Center, the Large-scale Instrument Testing Platform and the scientific research laboratory at the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology.
