Collaborative Research and Academic Agreement signed between Tomsk Polytechnic University of Russia and Tianjin University

Professor Andrey S. Latyshev, the Vice President of Tomsk Polytechnic University of Russia, had visited Tianjin University (TJU) on July 20 with his delegation of eight on Monday where an agreement to strengthen the cooperation in scientific research, student training and teacher exchanges was signed between the two universities.

Tomsk Polytechnic University, is one of the top science and engineering universities in Russia, and was founded in 1896 in Tomsk, the capital of Tomsk State. The university is made up of eight schools, ten departments and three scientific research institutes, namely the Research Institute of Nuclear Physics, Research Institute of High Pressure, and Research Institute of Internal Inspections. The university is experienced in training highly-skilled engineers, and has trained 150 thousand experts in various fields, including more than 500 academicians and recipients of the National Quality Medals. Dmitri Mendeleev, the Copley Medal winner and a world renowned chemist took part in the foundation of the Department of Chemistry of the university which laid a solid foundation for the development of the department.

President Li Jiajun met the delegation with Assistant to the President Hu Wenping, and colleagues from the International Office, Office of Academic Affairs, Graduate School and the Institute of Science and Research. After extending his warm welcome to the delegation, President Li expressed his gratitude to CSC, who had accompanied the delegation from Tomsk Polytechnic university, for its efforts in promoting the communication and cooperation between the two universities., President Li then introduced the delegation to the current development of Tianjin University, its domestic and foreign cooperation, and invited the leaders of Tomsk Polytechnic University to take part in the celebration of the 120th Anniversary of Tianjin University.

Vice President Andrey S. Latyshev expressed his gratitude of the warm reception extended by the university and gave an overview of Tomsk Polytechnic University. He emphasized the similarities between Tomsk Polytechnic University and Tianjin University in aspects such as the foundation of the respective universities, size of the universities, disciplines and the international exchanges and cooperation. At the same time, he invited representatives of Tianjin University to visit his university. Both parties then signed an agreement to strengthen the cooperation between the two universities in scientific research, student training and teacher exchanges.

During their visit, the delegation of Tomsk Polytechnic University visited the university’s History Museum and the Fengjicai Research Institute of Literature and Art. The visit from Tomsk Polytechnic University not only improved the mutual understanding between the two universities, but, more importantly, provided a substantial promotion of the cooperation between the two universities.

The delgateion was accompanied by Liu Jijun, partner of China Science and Merchants Investment Management Group (CSC), and general manager of the Entrepreneurship Education Investment Management Co., Ltd, of CSC.
