Recently, Wei Liu, a PhD candidate from School of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tianjin University (TU), was granted the 2011-2012 Grant-in-Aid Award by American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), one of the 21 recipients all over the world.
A Grant-in-Aid is an award to full-time graduate student of ASHRAE-related technologies. Only the top 10 to 25 students in the world are selected each year with reward of $10,000. The goal of the Program is to encourage outstanding graduate students to establish careers and get involved in research and social activities in ASHRAE. The evaluation criteria for candidates include academic performance, quality of the student’s research plan, and an overall assessment of the future involvement of the student within ASHRAE. Meanwhile, the advisors’ recommendation and academic influence is another important factor.
Tianjin University has produced two recipients of the Grant-in-Aid Award since last year. Xuan Mou, the first recipient of Grant-in-Aid Award in China, was also from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering. Qingyan (Yan) Chen, Chang Jiang Chair Professor of the School, is the supervisor of both of them.
