On February 11th,“Tianjin University Day” with the Confucius Institute in Bratislava as the platform was held successfully in University of Economics in Bratislava (EUB), focusing on enhancing international reputation of Tianjin University and building up research collaboration platform. Yidan Li, Vice Chairman of University Administrative Council, heading a delegation of 31, visited EUB and participated in “Tianjin University Day”. The activities include joint workshop and student artistic performance.
Universityof Economics in Bratislavaand Slovak University of Technology attached great importance to “Tianjin University Day” and offered substantial support. Also presented the workshop were ProfessorSivák, Rector of EUB, Professor Lenghardtova, Vice Rector of EUB, Professor Finka, Vice Rector of STU, Directors of the Confucius Institute inBratislavaand faculty of related schools.
Presiding at the joint workshop, Vice Rector Lenghardtova gave the delegation the warmest welcome on behalf of EUB and showed great appreciation on TU’s lasting efforts for institutional collaboration. She pointed out that the collaborative agreement has been signed with the Confucius Institute in Bratislava as the platform in the hope of substantial collaboration in terms of student and faculty mobility and joint publication. After reviewing the development of the institutional collaboration between EUB and TU,RectorSivák commented that with the already-achieved improvement he expected further communication and exchange and more in-depth collaboration.
Mr. Yidan Li appreciated the hospitality of EUB on behalf of Tianjin University. He then briefed the University history, the disciplinary layout, scientific research, engineering education reform, the internationalization strategy and the planning of the new campus. Prof. Zaisheng Hong, Dean of the Research Institute of Architecture Design and Urban Planning, Prof. Junji Liu, Associate Dean of School of Science, Prof. Zhenghua Li, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology and Asso. Prof. Xiaojie Liang, School of Management provided an overview of teaching and research of their respective schools. During the later-on discussion, faculty from both sides exchanged views on how to strengthen cooperation with programs of mutual interest.
After the with meeting with EUB colleagues, the delegation paid a visit to Mr. Ziping Gu, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the Slovakia Republic, and his wife. Ambassador Gu welcomed the delegation and reinforced that the Confucius Institute in Bratislava has played an essential role in promoting Chinese language and culture in Slovak.
Being the platform of education exchange, S&T research and industry-university-research cooperation, Confucius Institute in Bratislava promotes mutual participation, service and benefits and thus fosters co-development and enhances the understanding and friendship between the two countries through education and research collaboration, and cultural exchanges. “Tianjin University Day” is a continuing initiative between Tianjin University and Slovak universities, following “Slovak Day” held in Tianjin University on September 8th, 2010, with the aims to further accelerating comprehensive cooperation by learning from each other’s good practices.
