Professor Yuri V. Gulyaev, Academician of Russian Academy of Sciences Visits Tianjin University

On December 3rd, a delegation headed by Professor Yuri V. Gulyaev, President ofRussian Union of Scientific and Engineering Associations (RUSEA) and Academician of Russian Academy of Sciencesvisited Tianjin University. Professor Ke Gong, President of Tianjin University met with the guests. Prof. Kaihua Liu, Dean of the School of Electronic Information Engineering and Prof. Jinsheng Yang, Vice Dean of the school joined the meeting.

President Gong briefed the guests of the history, education and research of Tianjin University, especially the distinctive strength in the area of information and telecommunication. Professor Yuri V. Gulyaev touched upon the latest research achievements of the Russian Academy of Sciences including a new type of cancer diagnosis technology, and hoped to explore collaboration opportunities with Tianjin University in these areas. President GONG spoke highly of the research achievements made by the Academy, and expressed his hope to establish extensive collaboration between Tianjin University and the Academy in terms of scientific research and talent training. Later, the guests and faculty from School of Electronic Information Engineering further discussed the collaboration details.

The Russian Academy of Sciences was established pursuant to the order of the Emperor Peter I (in Russian) by the Decree of the Ruling Senate dated January 28, 1724. The Academy was reinstated by the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation dated November 21, 1991 as the supreme scientific institution of Russia. Till today, there are 19 RAS Academicians Awarded the Nobel Prize, among which 11 are in the field of Natural Sciences.
