On Feb. 4, Prof. GONG Ke, President of Tianjin University, visited the University College of London (UCL), where he met with Prof. GUO, Pro-Provost for China, and made academic exchanges with relative faculty members.
During his visit, Prof. GONG was fully engaged with intensive meetings with several professors.
Professor Bernard Buxton, Dean of Faculty of Engineering Sciences, presented the structure, the newly development and inter-disciplinary works of the faculty as well as the collaboration with Chinese Universities, such as Dalian Institute of Technology and Harbin Institute of Technology. The sub dean, Prof. Marco Federighi also joined in the discussions and talked about the engineering curriculum reform.
Professor Anthony Finkelstein, Head of Department of Computer Science and the next Dean of Engineering Sciences, gave a presentation on the structure of the department, the interdisciplinary centers, the MEng/Mreach and PhD programs and its research works in the FP7.
Professor Alan Jones, Professor Haroun Mahgerefteh and Dr. Junwang Tang, presented the visions and works in chemical engineering. They also expressed their interest in collaborating with TU, especially as accredited by IChemE.
Professor Alan Smith, Director of Mullard Space Science Laboratory and Head of Department of Science & Climate Physics, Director of UCL’s center for System Engineering, talked about the space science research and technology development at UCL.
Professor George Pavlou, Chair of Communication Networks, presented ICT related teaching and research at UCL, especially the inter-department collaboration with the department of Computer Science.
During the discussions with UCL colleagues, Prof. GONG mentioned about the relevant works in TU and showed interest in establishing cooperation relationship with UCL.
