On September 10, an “Alumni & Friends Cocktail Reception” was held in China World Hotel (Beijing) by the University of Queensland (UQ). On behalf Tianjin University and President GONG Ke, Professor YANG Fuling, Director of International Cooperation Office attended the reception. During the reception, the senior administrators of UQ, including the Chancellor, Sir Llewellyn Edwards and Vice Chancellor, Professor John Hay greeted Professor Yang and expressed their warm welcome for her presence. They discussed issues covering the co-establishment of the Confucius Institute at UQ, Brisbane and the inter-university cooperation and exchange. Professor Yang extended her gratitude for the kind invitation and passed to them the best regards from President Gong. She also extended on behalf of President Gong, the standing invitation to them to visit Tianjin University at a time convenient for them. Sir Llewellyn Edwards and Professor John Hay said they look forward to visiting Tianjin University and expressed their hope that President Gong would visit Australia in the near future. Founded in 1910, The University of Queensland is one of Australia's premier learning and research institutions. It is a founding member of the national “Group of Eight” and also a member of global “Universitas 21” alliance. Tianjin University and the University of Queensland signed the “Memorandum of Agreement for Academic Cooperation” in August, 2004. Since then, the two universities have been strengthening their friendly and cooperative relationship in various areas, including teachers and students exchange, and collaboration on teaching and scientific research. Currently, Tianjin University is working closely with the University of Queensland to establish a Confucius Institute at The University of Queensland, Brisbane.
