On July 11, 2007, H. E. Mr. Kim Ha Joong, Korean Ambassador to China visited Tianjin University and gave a speech titled “To Build a Beautiful Future for Sino-Korea Relations together” at Peiyang Forum as its first foreign guest. Before the speech, Prof. GONG Ke, President of Tianjin University greeted the guests and gave a brief talk on the history, education, research, talent training and international cooperation of the university. He hoped that the collaboration and exchange between Tianjin University and Korean universities and enterprises would be promoted through this visit. He said in his welcome address that, H. E. Mr. Kim Ha Joong had made great contribution to the friendship between China and Korea, and it was the obligation of the younger generations of the two countries to strengthen this friendly tie. In his speech, H. E. Mr. Kim Ha Joong introduced the rapid development of Sino-Korea relations during the past 15 years in five parts, i.e. “Korea in Chinese People’s Eyes”, “Factors in Developing Sino-Korea Relations”, “Korean Fashion Style vs. Chinese Fashion Style”, “Personal Ties with China” and “Prospect for Sino-Korea Relations”. He said that Tianjin was one of the cities he visited frequently. It is a famous metropolis with long history and culture, which functions as the bridge and ligament between China and Korea. With Tianjin Binhai New Area being brought into China’s development strategy, Tianjin is moving towards a historic opportunity of further development, which in turn will accelerate the investment of Korean enterprises in Tianjin. He hoped that through this visit, people, especially the younger generations of the two countries could strengthen their mutual understanding and foster a stable, lasting and friendly relation between China and Korea. In recent years, Tianjin University has maintained close ties with Korean universities. TU has established cooperative relationship with Seoul National University, SungKyunKwan University, Ewha Womans University etc. in terms of academic exchange and personnel training and so on.
