Australian Academician Professor John Ralston Conferred “Honorary Professor of Tianjin University”

Invited by the School of Materials Science and Engineering of Tianjin University, Professor John Ralston, Academician of both Australian Academy of Science and Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering, Director of the Ian Wark Research Institute at University of South Australia visited Tianjin University on June 15, 2007. Vice President Professor Xianjin Yang met with Professor John Ralston in his office, extending warm welcome and conferring on him the certificate of “Honorary Professor of Tianjin University” on behalf of President Gong Ke. Professor Ralston expressed his gratitude for our sincere invitation. During his stay, Professor John Ralston discussed on further cooperation opportunities with professors from the school of Materials Science and Engineering as well as the school of Chemical Engineering. Afterwards, he gave a lecture on “ELECTROWETTING IN AQUEOUS AND NON-AQUEOUS SYSTEMS: SATURATION AND OTHER NON-LIPPMANN BEHAVIOUR”. As the International Cooperation Office of Tianjin University agreed with the University of South Australia and Professor John Ralston, the University of South Australia will henceforth accept TU PhD candidates for co-supervision or degree programs and undergraduates for various exchange programs. The two universities will expand the all-around cooperation on scientific research and teaching to promote their long-term and friendly relations. Professor Ralston is one of the world’s leading figures in the areas of Colloid Science, Surface Physical Chemistry and Chemical Separation Engineering. Last year, Professor Ralston visited Tianjin University for discussions with school of Materials Science and Engineering as well as the school of Chemical Engineering.
