On September 13, 2006, a delegation from Texas A&M University headed by Dr. Richard Ewing, Vice-President for Research visited Tianjin University. The other 6 members of the delegation included Dr. John Niedzwecki, Executive Associate Dean of College of Engineering, Dr. Emily Yaung Ashworth, Associate Vice President International and so on. Prof. YU Jianxing, Vice President of Tianjin University hosted a discussion in No. 5 Meeting Room, Conference Building. After extending his warm welcome, Vice President YU Jianxing introduced to the guests the history and development of Tianjin University, as well as the programs, research interests and particularly the capabilities of Naval and Ocean Engineering at TJU. Vice President Richard Ewing gave a presentation on the position, history, disciplines and research strength of Texas A&M University. Dr. John Niedzwecki further talked about the engineering program, with reference to petroleum and chemical engineering, and ocean engineering at TAMU. Both sides expressed their hope to start cooperation from the field of petrochemical engineering and ocean engineering, and expand the collaboration into more areas. During the visit, the delegation visited the Naval Experimental Tank and the Laboratory for Port and Marine Engineering in the School of Civil Engineering, and SINOPEC Research and Development Center for Petrochemical Technology, where the modern facilities were highly evaluated. Associate Prof. SUN Keli, Vice Dean of School of Civil Engineering, Prof. MA Haihong, Deputy Director of Petrochemical Center, Prof. WANG Shibin, Deputy Director of Office of Undergraduate Education, and Prof. YANG Fuling, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Office also joined the meeting. Established in 1876, Texas A&M University is a comprehensive state university with 47,195 students, 7929 faculty and staff, and 10 colleges, including College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, College of Architecture, Mays Business School, College of Education, Dwight Look College of Engineering, College of Geosciences, College of Liberal Arts, Collegeof Science, College of Veterinary Medicine and George Bush School of Government and Public Service, among which College of Engineering ranks 8th and Petroleum Engineering ranks 1st in the nation. According to US News and World Report in 2007, the University ranks 60th among national research universities.
