On September 7, 2006, a delegation from the University of Auckland headed by Vice-Chancellor Stuart McCutchon visited Tianjin University. The other 9 members of the delegation included Dr. Christopher Tremewan, Pro Vice-Chancellor International, Prof. Peter Brothers,Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Peter Lee, CEO of UniServices and so on. Prof. GONG Ke, President of Tianjin University greeted the guests in No. 1 Meeting Room, Conference Building. After extending his warm welcome, President GONG Ke gave a brief talk on the history, development, funding resources and research capability of the University, and specially mentioned the overall strategy and development of Tianjin New Coastal Area. Prof. McCutcheon introduced the scale, comprehensive capability and international exchange programs of the University of Auckland. Both sides reviewed the exchange and cooperation background between the two universities and expressed their hope to further develop substantial collaboration in research and technology transfer. Prof. ZHONG Denghua, Vice President, Prof. HUANG Tian, Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. ZENG Jian, Dean of School of Architecture, Prof. CUI Zhenduo, Dean of School of Materials Science and Engineering, Prof. YAO Chunde, School of Mechanical Engineering, Prof. WEI Hongyuan, School of Chemical Engineering, Mr. LUO Zhen and Mr. CHEN Jingyuan, Deputy Directors of Office of Science & Technology, Prof. YANG Fuling, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Office also joined the meeting. After the meeting, Vice President ZHONG Denghua hosted a discussion on issues related to Science & Technology Transfer, and Prof. WEI Hongyuan gave a presentation on Research Capabilities and Technology Transfer on behalf of Tianjin University. The delegation visited relevant schools of Tianjin University later and discussed with professors about the details of cooperation. They visited TEDA the next day. Established in 1883, the University of Auckland is the largest and most famous international research university in New Zealand. It has 35,000 students and 1600 faculty and staff. In April, 2006, a delegation from Tianjin University headed by former President Shan Ping visited New Zealand and signed a MOU of academic cooperation with UoA.
