Chief Technology Officer of Gurit Visited Tianjin University

On August 21, 2006, Dr. Damian Bannister, Chief Technology Officer of Gurit, Switzerland visited Tianjin University to explore the cooperation possibility in the field of composite materials and application. Prof. TAN Xin, Director of International Corporation Office, met the guests in No.2 meeting room. Prof. CUI Zhenduo, Dean of School of Material Science and Engineering; Prof. ZHAO Naiqin, Head of Department of Metal Science, Prof. YUAN Xiaoyan, Head of Department of Polymer Materials also joined the meeting. Dr. Damian Bannister gave an overview of Gurit and indicated that the new factory invested by the company would be set up in TEDA soon. He also expressed his hope to make links with local universities in related fields. Prof. TAN Xin, on behalf of International Corporation Office, expressed congratulations on the establishment of the new factory and then gave a brief talk on the history, education, research and discipline of Tianjin University. Representatives from School of Material Science and Engineering also introduced the history, faculty, education, research and international cooperation of the school. Both sides expressed their hope to strength mutual understanding and promote cooperation. After the meeting, Dr. Damian Bannister visited several labs in School of Chemical Engineering and then delivered a presentation on the company’s research and product to postgraduates from School of Material Science and Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering and School of Environmental Science and Engineering. Founded in 1835, Gurit is a global manufacturer of advanced composite materials. The company focuses on three end market segments, including wind energy, transportation, and marine, sport &civil engineering. The new factory in TEDA will be put into production in March 2007 and will focus on the exploitation of wind energy market.
