On August 9, 2006, Dr. William Y. Hsu, Vice President of Kennametal Inc., USA visited Tianjin University to discuss with TJU side the possibility of cooperation in related field. Prof. HANG Jianmin, Vice President of Tianjin University, greeted the guests in No.2 Meeting Room, Conference Building. After extending his warm welcome to the guests, Vice Pesident HANG Jianmin briefly introduced the history, scale, education, research and discipline of TJU. Dr. William Y. Hsu also gave an overview of Kennametal. Both sides express their hope to promote exchange and cooperation in the future. Prof. CUI Zhenduo, Dean of School of Material Science and Engineering; Prof. WANG Shuxin, Vice Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering and relevant staff from International Corporation Office also joined the meeting. After the meeting, the delegation held discussions with principals from School of Mechanical Engineering and School of Material Science and Engineering, and visited several labs in School of Mechanical Engineering. Kennametal was founded in 1938 and is headquartered in Latrobe, PA USA. The company is the market leader in North America in metal cutting tools and is second in Europe and worldwide. In March, 2006, Kennametal (China) Inc. was set up in TEDA, with an area of 70,000 square meters and the first term investment of 31 million dollars. It will become one of the largest and most important manufacture bases worldwide for Kennametal. Tianjin University and Kennametal have cooperation possibility in fields of Material Science Engineering and Mechanical Engineering.
